Most grids have ratios ranging from 6:1 to 12:1. The appropriate grid ratio for a given examination involves the consideration of a number of factors. Although grids with higher ratios eliminate more scattered radiation, they tend to increase patient exposure and x-ray tube loading and require more precise positioning.


 

Each x-ray grid is offered in 85, 103, 178, or 200 lines per inch configurations with various focal ranges to choose from. The manufacturer of your x-ray equipment should provide you with guidelines for the x-ray grid specifications that best suits your system.
